# chapter 22. Themes and contradictions in Laban's work and thinking

 

.. Movement is the life of space. Dead space does not exist, for there is neither space without movement nor movement without space. All movement is an eternal change between binding and loosening.. stability and mobility alternate endlessly..

(.. 움직임은 공간의 생명이다. 죽은 공간은 존재하지 않는데, 움직임 없는 공간은 없고 공간없는 움직임은 없기 때문이다. 모든 움직임은 묶임과 풀림 사이의 영속적인 변화이다.. 안정성과 역동성은 끊임없이 번갈아 일어난다.)

 

.. Laban demanded that the human body be allowed to move according to its own rhythms.. if a person is allowed to adapt to their own way of moving, they will work harmoniously and more happily.. the best use of energy,  which is to understand Laban's concerns about balance and harmony, and the emotional content of movement..

.. His ethics and educations are based on a belief that if you allow a person to express themselves freely, then their movement will spontaneously express their natural, inborn joy of life..

.. the core of everything was that everything changes.. No surprise that Laban the painter spent so much time giving plastic form to the shapes and changes of movement in space..
